The conclusion to Shane Meadows’ epic collection, This Is England ’90 scooped up a BAFTA for Best Mini Series. With the first instalment, This Is England released in 2006, Meadows’ portrayal of life circa Thatcher’s reign has propelled the Midlands-massive into the global world of television, with the main cast almost entirely made up of young actors from the Nottingham Television Workshop. Vicky McClure and Jack O’Connell are among the young whipper snappers to have made their mark in the industry in Meadows’ film and subsequent series’, and they’ve only gone from strength to strength since leaving their Stoney Street stomping ground.

Another joining their ranks is the actress who played Kelly in the series, Chanel Cresswell, who last night scooped up her first ever BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress. Beating the likes of Eleanor Worthington-Cox of The Enfield Haunting and Michelle Gomez of Doctor Who, we’ll no doubt be watching the Workshop-grad performing as the leading lady from now on. Gwarn, girl, show ‘em how it’s done.
