Set in Nottingham, and created by a Notts cast and crew, Let’s Bring Back Sophie opens with 17-year-old Robin approaching the missing Sophie’s father after learning of her disappearance. Taking matters into his own hands, Robin enlists the help of his reluctant friend Ellie and other like-minded people, creating a social media campaign to try and engage more people with their cause.

Director Edward Fleming is an 18-year-old Confetti student with a fascination for visual art, and has been creating videos since he was 11. He sees Let’s Bring Back Sophie as his opportunity to combine both passions, with “the format being quite cinematic, yet quite alternative and stylized for the web, littered with lots of quirky montages, cutaways and lots of Wes Anderson inspired centre frame.”

Written by Fleming in the Summer of 2015, the project was later joined by screenwriter Elliott S. Sutton who helped with the writing of individual episodes. The bulk of the project’s crew also came from Confetti, including DP Alex Butler and sound recordist Kyle Smith.

Made with a budget of just over £800 – which came in through a combination of an Indiegogo campaign and sponsorship from The Nottingham Forest Youth Academy and the Vale of Belvoir Rotary – Let’s Bring Back Sophie was very much a voluntary passion project, the proceeds from the upcoming screening of which will all go to the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Let’s Bring Back Sophie will be showing at Nottingham Arts Theatre on Friday 27 May 2016 at 7pm.
