Festival season is almost well under way, and if you’ve still not booked in at least one weekend of field-based debauchery, then you best get cracking.
If reckless welly-abandon and raucous music isn’t your thing, then fear not, for the creatives in our city have got sommat to get you right involved. Font Festival is taking over Hockley this week, with events kicking off on Wednesday 25 May, and running through to the bank holiday, Monday 30 May.
Working with the Rob Howie-Smith project, and Trish and Ian Gardiner’s Greenshoots, both The Corner and The Lofthouse are about to become packed to the rafters with some of the city’s most creative folk.
You can catch poetry from the Austerity Café’s Andy Szpuk and Paul Quadros, the Mouthy Poets' will be making an appearance, and theatre from Mansfield’s Studio 82, NCN graduates, and Plain and Simple Theatre. Friday night sees The Corner taken over by two of the funniest companies in the biz, Sheep Soup and Major Labia, who will have you wetting your knickers with their double bill sketch shows; The Invention of Acting and The Major Labia Show respectively. Hold onto your hats, folks, it’s gonna be a bumpeh ride.
Each performance operates on a pay what you can basis, so you’ll be able to make a voluntary donation of whatever you can afford. Not only does this mean you can still catch the best spoken word, sketch comedy and theatre that Notts has to offer whether your pockets are lined with gold or not, but all the money you donate goes straight into the pockets of the artists you watch. No middle man, no venue fee, no nothing. That’s what we like to hear.
