Cheshire and the Cat
How would you describe your music?
It’s a big mixture really so it’s quite hard to name any particular genre. I would say though that our more recent music has taken more of a jazz, funk, soul kind of route.
What was your reaction to the news you'd be playing the FSN final?
We were all pleased to hear the news. We’d just finished recording ‘What it Takes’ in our living room and it was good to feel some appreciation for that track.
What can the Rock City crowd expect from your performance?
They can expect to hear plenty of brass, groovy basslines and a new song we’ve been working on. I might even release the crazy legs.
Why did you enter FSN?
The opportunity to play the main stage of Rock City was very attractive to us and we would love to play for a big festival crowd
Who are your biggest musical influences?
We all like a bit of everything. Again it’s a big mixture, a few favourites are Snarky Puppy, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Deep Purple, Erykah Badu and Lee Moses.
What are your biggest non-musical influences?
Doing time in a county jail, it was a dark time but it really inspired me creatively.
What other Nottingham artists are you loving at the moment?
George Holroyd is one of the most talented singer/ songwriters in Nottingham at the moment as well as being a nice all round fella.
What's been the highlight of your career so far?
A memorable evening was when we took to the streets with saxophones and trumpets and caused a party road-block on Talbot Street after Dot to Dot. We may even be thinking of repeating it this year…
How can people find out more about you?
Have a search for us on Facebook and a listen on Soundcloud or failing that you can ask our neighbours and they’ll give you an earful.
The Future Sound of Nottingham final takes place at Rock City on 14 June, free.

We have a favour to ask
LeftLion is Nottingham’s meeting point for information about what’s going on in our city, from the established organisations to the grassroots. We want to keep what we do free to all to access, but increasingly we are relying on revenue from our readers to continue. Can you spare a few quid each month to support us?
