Ellie Keegan

How would you describe your music?
I would say I make soft-folk/country, acoustic music, but it has been described as "one-man band" kind of music. My songs were also once described as "eclectic with soulful-indie tones, which are paired with raw lyrics and melodies" which I think is really nice.

What was your reaction to the news you'd be playing the FSN final?
I was absolutely ecstatic, I was listening to the podcast with two friends and we all high fived, and then listened again just to make sure. Just thinking about it makes me a little overwhelmed really, I've seen some of my favourite artists play on that stage.

Why did you enter FSN?
It was a pretty last minute decision, I kept forgetting to do it and couldn't decide whether to enter or not, but then I just thought that I'm leaving for university in September so I thought why not.

Who are your biggest musical influences?
If you've seen me live, you will know that Ed Sheeran is one of my influences. I started incorporating a loop pedal into my live sets, which has now because a key element of my gigs.

When I'm writing, I am really influenced by country/Americana music, particularly the modern Nashville scene. I think the lyric style is really clever and it allows songs to have deeper meaning, and to interpret it in their own way.

I am also an extremely big fan of other artists such as Fleetwood Mac, Kimbra, Sam Smith, The Beatles and Mumford And Sons.

What are your biggest non-musical influences?
Food, anything to do with eating or cooking really.

What other Nottingham artists are you loving at the moment?
Got big love for Sam Jones, Paige Seabridge, Brad Dear, and We Three Kings. Recently crossed paths with Isaac Bloomfield and he is definitely one to watch. Also think all the FSN finalists are exception, crazy talent.

What's been the highlight of your career so far?
Playing at The Royal Concert Hall in February, with a house band was pretty amazing. That then lead to my BBC Introducing session, and then it's all just been a whirlwind from there.

How can people find out more about you?
My facebook page is the best place to go.
