Future Sound of Nottingham 2016: Homesick

"We are basically a group of nerds so feelings aren't really what we do"

How would you describe your music?
We are a Blink-182 / Paramore hybrid basically. We'd like to think the combination works but that's for you to judge for yourself on the 19th.

What was your reaction to the news you’d be playing the FSN final?
We were in disbelief. Before the competition we had released one single and played one gig so we didn't expect to even make the semi finals. To get to the final, particularly in the way we did, just stunned pretty much all of us into silence... Then intense screaming. Of course we also felt relieved - that voting was intense.

What can the Citeh crowd expect from your performance?
Lots of jumping around... we will if you will. Watch out for Chris' signature moves too (if you've seen our Coming Second video you'll know what we mean.)

Why did you enter FSN?
Just to see what would happen basically. We thought why shouldn't we? Decided we could come up with no reason not to. Then look what happened.

Who are your biggest musical influences?
We all share a love for pop punk music  - that's why we do it. Neck Deep, State Champs and Paramore are all influences. There's also a heavy side to our band which comes from bands like Slipknot and Iron Maiden.

What Nottingham artists are you loving at the minute?
Loads and loads so this answer will just be a list I'm afraid: Ashfields, Tori Sheard, Joe Knight, Hello Tomorrow, K.Ji, Fall Of The Bastille and Tyler Nugent to name but a few.

What are your biggest non-musical influences?
Our songs are about confronting feelings that you can't quite get out in any other way than music. We are basically a group of nerds so feelings aren't really what we do. Our influences come from the people around us and hopefully when people listen to our music they can hear that and associate with it.

What’s been the highlight of your career so far?
Rock City will easily top any highlight we could come up with from what we have done previously, but I guess our highlight so far was recording the music video. We basically all ambled round a forest for a few hours and got very cold but we did have a great time...promise.

Any last words for Leftlion?
Thanks for all the support so far it's been humbling and flattering and just unbelievable really. Hopefully we will see you all at Rock City supporting all the great talent in this years' competition.

The Future Sound of Nottingham final takes place at Rock City on 19 June, free.
