Public Service Broadcasting take flight at Rock City
Watching Public Service Broadcasting is always a unique and engaging live show, their Public Information films and stage design do exactly what their first album promised; Inform-Educate -Entertain. Tonight, it’s their biggest headline date outside of London and the musical duo play to a sold-out Rock City.
Opening with Sputnik, with fittingly a makeshift Sputnik module in the middle of the stage, the 2,450 person capacity crowd fell to silence in awe. The 90-minute set took the audience on a journey through time and space, with tracks E.V.A and Go! taking recordings from the Apollo missions.
Musically, the band are on point and are utterly flawless throughout the hour-and-a-half set. “The East Midlands always treats us so well” splutters out a sample that’s typed in by band leader J Willgoose, esq.
Surrounded by televisions that were probably previously owned by your great grandparents, Public Information films were broadcast on to all the screens, making it both musically and visually entertaining. Aside from the stunning production and visuals there is the music itself, fast guitar riffs, that at times also partnered with a big brass brand, and a dancing astronaut.
Highlights included Everest and Spitfire, two crowd pleasers that initially made us fall in love them back in 2013. PSB put on one of their most memorable performances of their journey so far. Houston, don't worry, there's no problem.
Public Service Broadcasting were at Rock City on Thursday 11 February 2016.
