So, who plays what in the band?
Roger and Nic play guitars, Pete plays Sax, Mark or Mark play Bass and I (Rob) play Fiddle.
Can you describe your band in 3 words?
Energetic, virtuosic, swing
You’re playing CAST at Nottingham Playhouse on 23 May, as part of the opening night of the neat14 festival. What can people expect from the show?
I'd hope they'd turn up ready to dance. We try to take our listeners on an adventure musically and choose each song as we go along based on how they are responding, usually geared towards getting them up and dancing. Improvised music feeds off crowd reaction and emotion so we're hoping everyone will be up for it!
What’s your most memorable gig so far?
There are so many! From a personal viewpoint I can never forget playing the final set at the Bodega at Hockley Hustle 2009, people were dancing on tables and swinging from the rafters. Recently it would probably be last year’s Bestival where members from the Klezmer band Tantz joined us for an impromptu set to end the weekend. We'd only met that day and nobody knew what was going to happen but it was just magical.
If you could get anyone (alive or dead) in to play with you, who would you choose?
Probably Django Reinhardt. I'd like to jam with Paganini too.
What is coming up for you over the next year?
We have an album currently being mixed so that will be available over the summer. Several festivals including Port Eliot literary festival, How The Light Gets In philosophy and music festival, Southwell Folk festival and a few more to be confirmed. We love the summer and hope we have loads of campfire sessions!
Manière des Bohémiens perform as part of Neat14 at CAST on Friday 23 May 2014.
We have a favour to ask
LeftLion is Nottingham’s meeting point for information about what’s going on in our city, from the established organisations to the grassroots. We want to keep what we do free to all to access, but increasingly we are relying on revenue from our readers to continue. Can you spare a few quid each month to support us?
