Love going for a visit but spend your visit moaning about the entry cost? We have some good news for you if you live in Notts

It's called the Long Gallery for a reason...

Nottingham Castle, although often derided for its uncastleyness, is a pretty decent place for a day trip in Nottingham. Not only are there some amazing views of Nottingham from the grounds – you can see Wollaton Hall, Sneinton, Bridgford, Ratcliffe on Soar, and loads more, let’s not turn this into a literal listicle – the building houses a museum and art gallery. Showing local, international and national artists, it’s shown a vast array of work to suit all tastes in recent years, including an Andy Warhol Retrospective and a Street Art exhibition, as well as a permanent exhibition that’s not too shabby either. And, with plans for a transformation in motion, it’s promising to get even better by 2019.

Back in March 2015, we asked you lot what you thought they should spend the cash on, and along with many wonderful ideas there was an overwhelming number of you who wanted it to be cheaper to get in. We’re not saying that it was just our doing, but the good news is that from Wednesday 1 June, it’s going to get a lot cheaper for locals to enjoy what Nottingham Castle has to offer.

The entry cost is going from £6 to £7 for adults, £18 to £20 for family tickets (two adults and up to three children), while a child’s ticket will remain at £5. Yeah, we know, that’s an increase in prices. The good bit we referred to is that if you’re a local, you only have to pay for a ticket once a year. Yep, for £7 you can go every week if you like. Hell, every day if you’re so inclined. Wonderful. Who says having a moan doesn’t do owt? Just don’t forget to take some kind of ID with you.
