"Highlighting what's happening off the street, up in the workshops and studios around Nottingham"

Nottingham Indie Fashion Week kicked off on Tuesday with a spectacular show at St. Mary’s Church in the Lace Market.  Entitled the Fabric of Nottingham, the show featured fifteen independent designers from and around Nottingham. Hues of purple and green illuminated the church’s magnificent chambers and set the mood for an extraordinary night.

From the luxurious bridal gowns of Angela Vickers to Daniel Hanson’s lavish dressing gowns and Fazane Malik’s super sleek sportswear, the collections gave us a taste of what Nottingham folk will be wearing this spring. Fabric of Nottingham was an explosive fusion of colour, style, contemporary dance and live music. Tribal drumming, soft piano beats and Kim McCaulley’s live performance echoed through the church as male and female models fiercely rocked the runway.

Ending with a heavy round of applause, Creative Director Susi Henson stressed the evening was to “highlight what is happening off the street, up in the workshop, in the studios around about Nottingham so people can see where the magic is really happening”.

It was a fantastic start to a week full of creativity and local talent. In an age where mass production is so prominent, why not be different? Wear independent. Celebrate individuality.

Nottingham Indie Fashion Week kicked off on Tuesday 10 March at St. Mary’s Church.
