Whistling Orchestra
If you’re constantly annoying your colleagues while whistling along to the radio, or find birds conversing with your tooting as you potter about your everyday affairs, then perhaps you ought to pay Primary a visit. This week, they’re calling flute-less flutists of all ages to attend an informal meeting, with the prospect of joining a brand new, one of a kind whistling orchestra. Artist Emma Smith is attempting to compose an original orchestral score, inspired by working songs from Notts, and she needs a load of you Nottinghamians to perform it for her. If you’re interested, or think you might be, definitely pop along. It’ll be sommat different to do, at the very least...

Felix M-B
Our boy Felix is back with a brand spankin’ stonker of an EP for you this week. The young whipper snapper has been described as “unbelievable” by Dermot O’Leary, “A name in Notts to remember” by Under The Tree, and a “slick, professional performance” by our fine selves. His new album explains the lads perilous journey into adulthood, warts and all, and features another baby-faced Notts musician, Tiger. Grab a copy of his EP at Rough Trade on Friday, and pop along in the evening to hear it live. The show’s completely free, so you can save your pennies to spend on crate beer, and Rough Trade’s extra special cocktail menu...

Get yer eighties on, duck...
Tech Noir
We love to see new nights popping up around Notts. There’s a little slice of disco pie out there for everyone in our city, and this week, it’s the turn of the eighties disco divas. Suede Bar – famous for their thin crust pizzas – are hosting a ‘stylish, synth-lead’ club night, especially for the retrowave fans among you. Have the legwarmers at the ready, and adorn your outfit with a strong pair of shoulder pads, and prepare to disco the night away to DJ sets from Raider, Casio and Ghost, along with a very special guest… Did we mention it won’t cost you a penny?
Saturday 30 January, 9pm, free, Suede Bar
Donation Disco
One thing we love in Notts is raising a whole heap of dollar for those who are less fortunate than us. We don’t half love getting rat-arsed while we’re at it, an’ all. Get your groove on this weekend down at the Angel, all in aid of Hand in Hand for Syria. The charity are delivering humanitarian aid work on the ground in Syria, and need all the help they can get. What better way to raise a few squid than to get right sweaty with all your fave tunes blaring out the corner of your favourite Stoney Street pub. Plus, the chippy next door’ll see you right come closing time...
Saturday 30 January, 10pm, £4 minimum donation, Old Angel
