The Greatest Hit
Carl Froch Open Workout
Our very own boxing champion is facing off against super-middleweight George Groves this Saturday, in the first boxing match at Wembley since it reopened back in 2007. For this fight, Carl will be warming up in a slightly different way to usual - you’ll find him in the middle of Broadmarsh doing his usual workouts. Yep, you’ll get to see the legend in person, and see just how he keeps his perfect form, all for free - not bad considering tickets for the match can cost up to £1,500. Perfect for sports fans and sweaty-muscle-man admirers alike, you might even get chance to shake hands with the Nottingham legend himself.
Monday 26 May, 12pm, free, Broadmarsh
Host by Steve Fossey
We all love a bit of free grub, and most of us like a good curry too. If you head down to that lovely little space that is Cobden Chambers, you’ll be given a plate of nosh in exchange for a bit of your time. Your host will be a fellow called Steve Fossey, and he just wants to have a bit of a chat with you. Why? So he can see how we react when we sit down with someone that we don’t know, and practice the art of conversation. He’s a nice fella, and you’re getting a free meal, so korm on down and share some love.
Monday 26 May, 12pm, free, Cobden Chambers

Quantic
Loads of artists are jumping on the world music bandwagon these days, and one man who’s riding it in serious style is Will Holland. Musician, DJ, producer, he’s a master of his crafts, infusing soul, hip hop, jazz, electronic and Latin influences to create sounds impossible to resist getting down to. Give him a cheeky search to unearth exactly what we mean – it’s music that’ll butter you up good and proper for summer, tracks like Not So Blue and Time Is The Enemy are perfect for sunny days of barbequing on the back garden. It might be a school night, but Quantic is 100% worth sacrificing your bright eyes and bushy tails for.

Meet Puppit and Digit
As part of NearNow’s Libraries for the Future Project, Polymath have beamed Puppit and Digit down from space. You might have seen them back in the 2012 Olympic torch relays - they’re two robot puppets who are here to take back your messages of love, because before they head back to their home planet of Andromeda, they want to hear what libraries mean to you and how you envision them in the future. Even if you’re not the biggest fan of books, the fact is the little space freaks are pretty damn cool to look at, and they’ll make you feel like a UFO has landed in the East Mids.
Thursday 29 May, 11am - 4pm, free, Mansfield Library
Three cheers for that chin
Craig Campbell
We all love a good laugh, and this Canadian funnyman brings plenty. For those unfamiliar, Craig is one of the top stand-ups on the circuit, having won over loads of new fans after supporting Mr Controversy himself Frankie Boyle. Now he’s bringing his brand new live show to Notts. Expect plenty of witty, detailed observations about the obscurest of subjects - seriously, his last tour had an entire section dedicated to lifeboats and Japanese bullet trains. While we’re not sure exactly what is buzzing around in his bonce, we’re intrigued to find out exactly what his master storytelling skills entail.

Do you secretly wish the nineties never ended? Do you miss decking yourself out in neon, downing alcopops, and going crazy to a bit of Artful Dodger? Well, Common People are here to bring it all back for one night. If you’ve been to either of the last ones, you’ll know the crack - pogs, transfer tattoos, and some huge tunes. This time they’ve got a UK garage and dance theme and, get this, if you come down clobbered up in a Union Jack, you’ll get half-price entry. When the crowd say bo...

Roar meet
Loewenmouthy
The Mouthy Poets are good mates with Loewenmaul, a performance poetry group in Germany. As you can imagine, it isn’t the easiest thing to get them all in the same room, but thanks to the wonders of technology, the performance will see several of the German bards delivering their wise words over Skype, as well as an actual appearance from Christina, one of the members of Loewenmaul. The poetry will be performed in a variety of languages, and takes the running theme of borders - see what they did there? The after party lends the opportunity to listen to international music and have a chat among the gobbiest on Earth.

Hot 8 Brass Band
You won’t have to travel too far for a taste of the Mardi Gras this Sunday, cos the jazziest, New Orleans stewed marching band are being dropped on our doorstep to deliver a hip hop riot. Thanks to Sounddhism and Can’t Stop Won’t Stop, Tru Thoughts family members Hot 8 Brass Band will be tearing things up, with Nubiyan Twist in support.
