Phlebas Halloween Special: The Insane Asylum All Nighter
Tuesdays are historically known for being the messiest nights around – that is, if you drag yoursen down to Bar Eleven. The party delivery guys are hosting a Halloween themed-eve with all the usual table gyrating – one minute to Killing in the Name of and the next to Let’s Get it on – but this time all in attendance will be signing themselves into the asylum, equipped with medicine behind the bar. As this is a place where the quality of your costume is on par with your worth as a human being, whack some effort in – previous years have seen zombie cowboys, centurions, skellybobs and scary clowns galore. Time to step it up a notch, so don’t forget to put your name on the guestlist.
Tuesday 28 October, 10pm, £3, Bar Eleven

RubberDub Halloween Jungle Special
After providing a summer full of good times, the RubberDub Crew are back from their
travels to offer up a night celebrating good owd Hallow’s eve. The lads are going back to their roots with straight up nineties vibes - old school jungle and bashment, no less. There are sets from London lad Rude Bwoy Monty, Sheffield's KidLib and, of course, some hometown representation from Tribes, Grimaz, Origin One and FelDem. Decked out with “fully spooked out décor” and a fancy dress code of “ghetto zombies and dead gyal,” it’s gonna be all the fun of a regular skanking session with some crackers touches – gerronit!
Friday 31 October, 10pm, £5, The Maze

Halloween at Annie’s
If you fancy something a bit different to knocking on yer neighbours’ front door for a couple of strawberry laces, you might want to pop down to Annie’s. They’ve got an old-fashioned storytelling session going off, which sees the experienced Woolly Tellers - Mick Whysall and Dave Brookes - tell a good spooky tale or two over some delicious food and drink. If you’ve still got a bit of party left in you afterwards, you’ll wanna head downstairs where Wanderlings will be playing some psychedelic live music, and if all that’s not enough for you, there’s plenty of Halloween themed games to be dicking about with. Ace.
Friday 31 October, 7.30pm, £5/£9, Annie’s Burger Shack

21st Century Poe: Falling For The Ushers
If you like the sound of a storytelling session, but fancy one over a damn fine cuppa, then look no further than Lee Rosy’s. Their Halloween celebrations see Scottish storyteller and playwright Marty Ross, who you may have heard on BBC Radio’s Doctor Who, bring Edgar Allan Poe’s classic The Fall of the House of Usher straight into the modern world. Having already been a hit at the Edinburgh Fringe and London Horror Festivals, you’re in for quite a treat. Marty takes on a cast list of such larger-than-life characters, and does it so well, that you may well feel like you’re in the haunted mansion yourself.
Friday 31 October, 8pm, £3.50, Lee Rosy’s Tea Shop

FLUX
Notts is catering for fans of all genres this Halloween, not least the most enthusiastic fans of the holiday. If you’re into your old school goth, rock and industrial tunes then look no further than Black Cherry Lounge. DJ Entropy and DJ Daxie Sparkles will be whacking out the likes of Joy Division, Christian Death, New Model Army and more. Expect some proper creative fancy dress here, and with cheap drinks a plenty, what more could you want on the scariest night of the year? It ain’t nothing but a goth thang!

Psychedelic Halloween Happenings
JamCafe have gone and got two of the finest psyche/garage bands from around the UK, and they’ve whacked them on the same night. You can get your fuzz on to Manchester's Hey Bulldog and Bristols brilliantly named The Bad Joke That Ended Wellm - all for the sweet price of FA. There’ll also be loads of psychedelic DJs dropping some slick vinyl tunes ‘til the early hours. Oh, and they have one of the coolest dress codes we’ve seen - zombified musicians. Apparently there may be a prize for best costume, but there also might not be. Guess we'll just have to see how the jammy boggers are feeling on the night.
Friday 31 October, 8pm, free, JamCafe

Old Angel Halloween Party
If you fancy a good ol’ fashioned headbang this Halloween, then look no further than The Old Angel. They’ve got four bands, all across the alternative spectrum, to keep you rocking ‘til the wee hours. dragSTER bring some female-fronted punk ‘n’ roll, Trioxin Cherry bring some garage style rock, B-Movie Britz turn things up with their hardcore punk and Honey are set to deliver some sweet alternative stylings. Mayhem X
The pantaloon-destroying film festival is back for its tenth year, with all the usual bloodcurdling activities and then some. Mayhem will celebrate over ten days with a pre-festival, including screenings, master classes and workshops exploring the horror genre in all its gory glory. Pre-festival events include Teen Mayhem (stuff for the youths) and Mayhem Certificate X (an exploration of the X rating.) On the night before Halloween, cult film collective Astron-6 will open the main festival, gracing the screen with short film favourites Bio-Cop, Manborg, and their latest piece, The Editor, as well as doing a Q&A. There’ll also be a fortieth anniversary screening of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Dr Brendan Dare will be bringing his Thrill Laboratory, 8mm Orchestra will be live soundtracking a silent film before your eyes, plus celluloid gore and thrills. Bloody awesome.

Hallow Gore: Monsters and Mischief
On top of all this, there are loads of ghoulish gigs going down this Halloween, so stick that warty snout into the full set of listings and find out what’ll light yer pumpkin - although, this particular event is looking as sweet as a couple of tuffy-stuffed pockets. Hello Thor and The Kneel Before Zod Video Club have linked up to present an evening of live bands and DJs, art installations, film screenings, decorations and loads more freaky fun. This year’s party celebrates British folklore, so prepare to get a little bit dark and very, very odd. Fancy dress is compulsory. Well, nobody’s gonna kick you out, but you’ll look a right boring muggle when all the werewolves, demons, witches and forest people are performing their ritualistic sacrifice boogy and you’re stood at the back repping your Hi-Tec trainers. Join the spine-chilling madness. Muahaha!
Friday 31 October, 7.30pm, free, Nottingham Contemporary

Monster Mash Halloween Party
Just what we like to see – loads of lovely local acts in a lovely local café. With an undead kick, of course. Wire and Wool are hosting a spine-tingling session of songs, from piano playing Dino Franchi, party band Cheshire & The Cat, six-piece soulful crazies The Afterdark Movement, and melodic electronic producer and DJ, Tray Electric. Some of the funkiest artists to come out of our city are on offer, right alongside a few Halloween-themed games. That’s right, there’ll be apple bobbing for all, as well as a trick or treat session – although we’re not too sure if Angel Row's kebab shops have a big enough tuffy stash between them. There are also prizes for both the best and the worst fancy dress costumes, so deck yersen out good and proper... or not.
Friday 31 October, 8.30pm, free, Alley Café

Wigflex Eighth Birthday Halloween Special
Time to get deep in the session. Get yourself down to the dark confines of Brickworks to have the ultimate brain-twisting experience, dragging up the Halloween ruckus to celebrate Wigflex’s coming of age. Straight outta Rotterdam is the intergalactic Martyn, alongside Berlin monster Shed aka Head High. There’s also spinning sessions from Luke Abbott, Spam Chop, Morris Cowan and Hizatron. What better place to enjoy the ghoulish holiday than a club night specialising in cartoon monsters, massive techno tunes and beef jerky? Tickets are on third release now and they’re going fast, so get a wiggle on.
Friday 31 October, 11pm, £17.50-£20, The Brickworks

Filthy’s Freak Fest
Don’t yawn just yet. This one’s worth some real attention. As well as live music from Herbie Duo, a talented acoustic covers pair, there will be some ghastly decoration all around the venue - well worth keeping an eye on in case something jumps from the ceiling and eats your brains. There’s also a special guest DJ mixing danceable tunes all night upstairs, alongside special eerily-themed drinks. Right, we know everyone’s asking you to don fancy dress, but Filthy’s are serious in their request and are offering up a whopping £500 for the best costume. Rub your eyes if you need to. Five hundred bleddy smackeroons. Need we say more?
Friday 31 October, 5pm, free, Filthy’s Gypsy Lounge
