The Big Moon visit Nottingham as part of the DIY NEU Tour - Photo by Laura Allard-Fleischl
The Big Moon! How are you? You've played Nottingham a few times now, most notably supporting Peace when they played their intimate shows at The Bodega earlier this year. Do you feel you know the place well now?
Good! Yeah I reckon so, it’s the venue I think we’ve played the most this year so it’s always nice to come back and see some familiar faces and work with the same people again.
You've played a lot of shows without much music out there, back to the old ways when bands gigged before releasing records. Was that a conscious decision taken by the band?
Maybe? I’m not sure. We’ve always strived to be a good live band mainly because that’s such a massive part of all this. So the only real way of being good at something is to keep at it and play as much as we could. Then put out little bits of music over time so that people would hopefully be inclined to come to one of our shows.
You're playing on the DIY neu tour with Vant and Inheaven. Have you played with these bands before? Are you looking forward to playing with them?
We played with Vant earlier this year in Brighton, that was a fun gig but not played with Inheaven before. Yeah, it’s always exciting going on tour with bands you’ve not played with before.
You've played a load of festivals over the summer and you're heading to the CMJ event in New York, do you feel that the momentum is building up for the band? There's a lot of talk about you being the breakthrough act next year (mainly from people like me). Does that affect you at all?
It’s all a bit mental really. Things are starting to happen, people are starting to pay a bit of attention so yeah there is this excitement of upcoming shows and releases but I’m not sure about the whole breakthrough act title, seems a bit far fetched at this stage. There’s a ton of amazing bands out there.
For anyone who hasn't seen you before, what can they expect from The Big Moon at the Bodega show?
We make lots of loud noise and we like people to dance even in the quiet bits.
Any news on the album and your own headline tours?
We’re working away at it and no headline tours at the minute but we’re looking to do some next year at some point.
DIY NEU Tour with Vant, The Big Moon, and Inheaven is at The Bodega on Thursday 1 October. 2015.
We have a favour to ask
LeftLion is Nottingham’s meeting point for information about what’s going on in our city, from the established organisations to the grassroots. We want to keep what we do free to all to access, but increasingly we are relying on revenue from our readers to continue. Can you spare a few quid each month to support us?
