Ever wondered what it would be like to be in Dirty Disco heaven? If so, Warmduscher are the band for you...
Ever wondered what it would be like to be in Dirty Disco heaven? Because boy, do I have the band for you! I mean, I call it Dirty Disco, but don’t quote me on that. It’s really hard to pinpoint where Warmduscher stands in terms of genre, to be honest. Is it Funk? Yes. Jazz? Yep. Rap? Also yes. Punk? More yes. Their sound morphs from one genre to another but there is one thing that carries through in all their songs: relentless energy and joy.
Before we get into it, I want to give a big shout out to the opening band, Opus Kink. They were incredible, and you all need to go see them live ASAP. Their sound is a glorious mix of experimental, saxophone-fuelled punk and jazz, with a grimy, moody twist. Their stage presence doesn’t disappoint either - imagine six blokes, decorated in stick ’n’ poke tattoos, draped in charity-shop chic, led by a majestic frontman who’s like a modern David Bowie. Who wouldn’t get behind that?
Now, Warmduscher. These guys are insane, and I mean that in the best way possible. They are such a massive force for positivity and their funky, bass-driven tunes brought everyone to a cheerful smile. Clams stormed in wearing his bright white tracksuit and cap, with a pair of sunglasses that seemingly never came off. The rest of the band looked splendid in their matching branded white jumpsuits, who, in contrast to Clams, very casually took their spots on the stage.
It comes to no surprise that we were treated to the majority of Warmduscher’s latest album At The Hotspot that evening, with infectiously funky tracks like Fatso, Twitchin’ in the Kitchen and Wild Flowers. During the latter, Clams hollered "Stop looking at me while I piss" while grabbing hold of his junk - now, that might not fly elsewhere, but it fits in perfectly with the aura of Warmduscher and their dynamite brand of sleazy disco. Perfect example right there of the kind of attitude you’d be expecting from London’s group of funk fiends.
I was very happy to hear Midnight Dipper and Disco Peanuts next, which are the two tracks that caught my attention and got me into Warmduscher to begin with. They are also their most renowned tracks, and for good reason! You can’t help but give in to their infectious, bouncy rhythm and the crowd’s joyous cheers and dancing confirmed that fact.
Their songs flew seamlessly into each other, and while the set was well over an hour, it felt like it went by in minutes. It did feel a bit repetitive at times, and a little messy, but that is exactly what you sign up for with Warmduscher - a wicked good time. It’s been a few days and I still have their contagious riffs playing in my head, it’s a full-on party up there still. Trust Warmduscher to have that effect on you!
