The Brighton-based six piece band head to Rescue Rooms for a headline performance...

It’s always a good thing to check out the support act. Everyone has been a support once, after all, and I was so glad I checked out Baba Ali. Hailing from New York, Ali is now resident in the UK, and has benefited from working with acclaimed industry names such as Brian Burton (Danger Mouse) and Jamie Hince (The Kills). A simple set-up as a duo, with guitar and synths, he certainly knew how to capture attention.

Alternatively a Kraftwerk/Sparks stoic statuesque figure, becoming an energetic yet elegant ball of fire, the audience were enthralled. There was a bit of New Order here and there, bringing a funky sound to an indie/electronica vibe. Good looking too, I must add.

It has been a few years since I had seen The Go! Team perform live and to be honest, at the time, I had not been impressed, something I think was mainly because I was incredibly tired. I saw they were playing Nottingham and decided that I needed to give them a second chance.

It’s very safe to say that I was not disappointed this time around. Bursting onto stage, this multi-faceted group, who swapped roles frequently during the night, showed their boundless talents during their set in Rescue Rooms.

There was loads of audience participation, from radios to star sign shout-outs. “Don’t be afraid of the mic!” said singer Ninja as she asked people their names and star signs before launching into the song Gemini. The front row loved it!

I really enjoyed the band’s enthusiasm; mixing indie, funk and hip hop with a great stage presence, this was one of the most energetic performances I’d seen this year. Bouncing along to all the songs, you were completely drawn in, and it was pure joy to be there.
