Cycling in Nottingham: The Best and Worst Routes
Tue 24 Feb 2015We did a quick survey to find out what cyclists reckon are Nottingham’s best and worst cycling infrastructure features. Nothing scientific, but we asked around, heard your opinions - including Nottingham Velo Venturers and Pedals chairman, Hugh McClintock - and came up with a list to outline the physical things that make cycling easier, safer and more convenient.

Thu 19 Feb 2015Amy White, Midfielder for Nottingham Forest Ladies FC, was scouted by Forest as a nipper. Seemingly unable to sit still, the 23-year-old holds down a full-time job, plays professional football and somehow manages to fit in coaching and a social life. Currently out with an injury, we chatted to her about her love of the beautiful game...

Sobar: Nottingham's Alcohol Free Bar from Double Impact

Cycling in Nottingham: History of Raleigh Bikes
Thu 15 Jan 2015You can hardly move in Nottingham, or anywhere else for that matter, for Raleigh bikes. Not the new ones, which aren’t sold by as many bike dealers as they once were, but second-hand and restored classic machines – from rare pre-war models to the ‘all steel’ bikes of the fifties and sixties, to fold-up twenties, to Choppers, Grifters, Activators and Team Banana racers of the eighties.

Rough Trade Open Up In Nottingham
Wed 10 Dec 2014Stephen Godfroy, director and co-owner of Rough Trade, is credited with revitalising the company after joining a decade ago. Firstly he introduced the subscription-based ‘Album Club’ and then helped develop Rough Trade East, the company’s flagship store on trendier-than-thou Brick Lane. After setting up Rough Trade New York last October, the independent record store has opened its first UK store outside of London on Broad Street. He came to Nottingham for the store’s opening, so we nipped in for a chat…

Bang! Short Film Festival Is Calling It A Day
Thu 27 Nov 2014Short films are perfect. Perfect for the filmmaker wanting to showcase what they can do, perfect for the YouTube generation struggling to concentrate on anything for more than an hour, perfect for creating some of the most diverse film festivals out there. Bang! Short Film Festival started off small but, as the digital age took hold and their audiences got bigger, it grew into a beast of a festival. Unfortunately, after fifteen years of filling Broadway’s screens with bite-sized reels, they’ve called it a day. We get all nostalgic and look at what the festival meant to filmmakers and audiences alike...

The History of the Malt Cross Nottingham
Thu 06 Nov 2014After scooping a £1.38m grant from Heritage Lottery Funding this year, the Malt Cross closed its doors for four months to undergo a massive restoration. Now re-opened, it’s the largest Victorian music hall outside of London and one of only a fistful left in the country. As one of Nottingham’s most beautiful buildings, it’d be remiss not to have a dig in to its colourful history…
