Interview: Alex from Ideas on Paper
Tue 14 Oct 2014Despite the digital revolution, reading a magazine on a device is never quite as good as the real thing. It’s not all nostalgia - although yes, there is something wonderful about flicking through pages at leisure while getting a hit of the distinctive smell of ink and paper - physical print is actually easier to read. We spoke to Alex Smith, the man behind the independent magazine shop Ideas On Paper, about why print is here to stay...
Lenton Flats from This Is England and Control Scheduled for Demolition
Wed 24 Sep 2014Once a shining hope for the post-war housing crisis, and the backdrop for films such as This Is England, Control and Weekend, the Lenton Flats were slated for demolition three years ago. The Sneinton Art Scene
Tue 17 Jun 2014Nottingham will never be mistaken for Paris but it is slowly being reorganised into French-style ‘quarters.’ In April the city council approved plans for Royal, Canal and Castle quarters to go with the business-orientated Creative Quarter that is based in and around Hockley. While LeftLion understand that there are as yet no plans to actually reorganise residential areas of Nottingham into arrondissements, readers may be wondering if there are also plans afoot to create the equivalent of Paris’ bohemian Left Bank.

Stories From The Raleigh Factory
Wed 01 Aug 2012Walking straight out of school on Friday and into work on Monday. Grafting in a building the size of a small town. Workmates walking around with their giant appendages hanging out near machinery that could rip an arm off. Suicidal staff members helping themselves to cyanide. Mass copulation in the Pump Shop. Your workplace having its
own fishing pond and ballroom. If you weren’t around when Britain was the workshop of the world instead of its pound shop, only one word springs to mind when you read the tales of those who worked at Nottingham's iconic bicycle factory; Raleigh.
