Hyper; Local: how localism has been redefined in the new-media sphere. Matt gives us
an overview of the inception, creation and bumpy life of The Beestonian, and how we
managed to keep it afloat while print media and local journalism went into a nosedive
elsewhere; and what we have lined up for the future.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Local journalist and author Matt Turpin set up The Beestonian in 2011 after a lifelong
fascination with magazines and human geography. It has gone on to become an
established part of Beeston. Although no longer its Editor, he still oversees operations.
Currently, Matt works as a lecturer in Journalism and Creative Writing, inspiring others
to pick up a pen and talk about place.
