Beautiful Thing + Talk: Lgbt+ Notts In the '90s

Saturday 8 February 2025

At Broadway Cinema

Price £5 - £11
Times 14:00

Presented by Fortune & Glory Film Club

Join us this LGBT+ History Month for a deep dive into the queer history of Nottingham in the ‘90s with CJ DeBarra, founder of the Notts Queer History Archive, followed by a screening of 1996 British classic Beautiful Thing.

CJ’s talk will be followed by an informal discussion session hosted by Fortune & Glory’s Emma Duncan, with a short break before the film, which will start at 3pm.

Hettie MacDonald’s (co-director of TV’s Normal People) romantic comedy tells the story of two classmates and neighbours who fall in love over one summer in South East London. When Ste sleeps over one night at Jamie’s after getting beaten up by his brother, the two share a bed, and a complicated, heartwarming relationship ensues in this funny and touching comedy. –BFI

CJ DeBarra is a queer, non-binary, Irish journalist and author based in Nottingham. They are currently working on turning Notts Queer History Archive from an oral project into two books set to be published by Five Leaves in time for this year’s Pride. We're committed to ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to attend. If cost is a concern, please don't hesitate to reach out to the event organisers for a ticket, at fortunegloryfilmclub@outlook.com
