New York, New York is Martin Scorsese’s lavish homage to the MGM musical, featuring grand artificial sets and swooning style. It’s also a fascinating look at a director in the midst of his own journey of chaos and excess; Marty’s cocaine addiction and lack of control on set would ultimately lead to a massively inflated budget and box office failure.
