The Films Of Mike Leigh: Another Year

Another Year follows four seasons in the lives and allotment of Tom and Gerri – Mike Leigh regulars Jim Broadbent and Ruth Sheen – a happily (smugly?) married couple whose home has become a haven for their friends less lucky in life and love. While everyone is on top form, Lesley Manville in particular gives a truly dazzling performance as Mary, Gerri’s lonely colleague-slash-friend perpetually on the brink of personal disaster.
