GET INTO TEACHING EVENTS COME TO THE EAST MIDLANDS

Programme of free events for people curious about teaching as a career and those ready to step into the classroom

A free Get Into Teaching event is coming to the East Midlands to encourage people to think about a career in the classroom and to find out more about life as a teacher. The event is open to everyone, including those looking to make a career switch later in life.

The event, from 5pm to 8pm on Wednesday 18th October at Crowne Plaza Nottingham, Wollaton Street, Nottingham, NG1 5RH, will be packed with information and advice on the steps to becoming a teacher.

The Get Into Teaching East Midlands event will include opportunities to talk to training providers about courses they offer, find out how to apply for teacher training, explore what funding is available, and connect with others interested in teaching. Information will also be available about how to fund your training.

The free Get Into Teaching event aims to inspire more people in the area to join an exciting and varied profession that helps shape the lives of the next generation. It is part of a programme of events taking place in different locations across England this autumn, organised by Get Into Teaching, which offers free advice and support for those thinking about teaching and for those ready to apply.

According to a recent national survey* for Get Into Teaching, more than nine in ten teachers (93%) say their students have had a positive influence on their outlook on life, with a similar amount (92%) revealing they’ve learnt more about themselves from working with young people than they ever thought they would.

Post-graduate teacher training typically lasts one year, with new trainees starting courses each September. Applications to train from next year open 10th October 2023.

Roger Pope, spokesperson for the Get Into Teaching campaign said: “This event is a fantastic opportunity to explore everything you need to know about a career that really does change lives and allow you to make your mark on the world.

“Anyone searching for a career that provides stability and progression opportunities can go along to find out more. You too could soon be joining thousands of others, tapping into your own talents and passion for a particular subject while witnessing pupils learn and flourish.”

At the event there’ll be presentations covering the teacher training process and giving practical tips on how to apply. Other zones will allow visitors to meet teachers and have one-to-one conversations with teacher training advisers. There will also be an area for practical advice on topics such as confidence to teach and career progression.

Registration in advance is advisable for fast track entry, plus event updates and tips ahead of the day by visiting: https://getintoteaching.education.gov.uk/events/231018-get-into-teaching-east-midlands-event but people can turn up and register at the event on the day.

For helping to shape the next generation, you’re entitled to a competitive salary, generous holidays, and a substantial pension.
