Mozart - String Quartet No.22 in B flat major, KV589
Martinů - String Quartet No.7 (‘Concerto Da Camera’), H.314
Tchaikovsky - String Quartet No. 3 in E flat minor, Op.30
The renowned Czech string quartet performs two works that deserve to be heard more frequently. Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů’s final quartet was written in New York 1947, an optimistic, genial work with an expressive, lyrical slow movement. Tchaikovsky’s third, and final quartet honours the memory of his friend and violinist Ferdinand Laub with an exquisitely tender slow movement, before concluding with a spirited finale.
