The fens and marshes of Lincolnshire and Norfolk to this day are shrouded in mystery and folklore. Irrigated by man made dykes and waterways. The rich land was the marshes were reclaimed by the Romans. Later by land owners, but not without violent opposition from the marsh dwellers. Improved and influenced by Dutch engineers.
The water running in to the marshes, often shrouded in mist is not a place for the unwary. Many have ventured in, never to be seen again.
