John Lewis & Partners, Nottingham are celebrating Pride in the city with a unique installation at the shop's main pedestrian entrance. The Fernwood School’s The ‘Free To Be Me’ club from Wollaton has created an inspiring installation that represents what Pride means to their members.
The final result on display, at the shop's Milton St entrance, is made up of 1,000 paper cranes hand made by members of the club. They chose the symbol of the crane based on their studies of Japanese culture where the crane is considered a mystical or holy creature. The crane is a symbol of peace and they are created by groups as a collective effort when wanting to offer good fortune to others. The tradition says if a 1,000 cranes are folded within the year a wish is made it will be granted. It is the wish of the ‘Free To Be Me’ club that all those LGBTQ+ community may live free of prejudice and peacefully across the globe.
This Pride weekend you'll also hear the voices of the children via the shops PA system reading their wishes for the LGBTQ+ community.
If you are heading to the city celebrations on Saturday 29 July and you've forgot your glitter head to the M.A.C. counter on floor one where they will be happy to make you sparkle for the occasion for FREE.
