House and Proud X Sanctury

Nottingham music lovers unite for a day of peace, love and house music.

Our city's oldest LGBTQ+ venue plays host to a fabulous all day and night party this weekend. Starting at 3pm on Saturday, some of Nottingham’s finest established and emerging DJ talent will descend on The New Foresters pub on St Anns Street for a house, disco and funk extravaganza. 

Nottingham-based DJ and producer Shari Mills has always been passionate about music, running parties and events across the Midlands and beyond for more than 15 years.

Her latest endeavour, established in 2023, is House and Proud, a party celebrating inclusivity, freedom and the love of music.

She’s teaming up with Sanctury, a rising Nottingham music collective headed up by two DJs who are well-known and respected on the scene, Cookii Shakes and Ark-S. Together they’ve put together an impressive and diverse line-up of local talent, who’ll entertain crowds between 3pm and 4am on Saturday 7 September. There’ll be two rooms, one dedicated to house and the other celebrating disco, soul, Motown and funk.

"Back in the early 2000s I used to go to a Speed Queen - a brilliant queer house music party in Leeds, which me and my brother Mark absolutely loved," says Shari. "My aim with House and Proud is to bring this spirit Nottingham, and the New Foresters is a perfect place to do it.

Shari has held regular House and Proud parties over the last year or so, with a focus on celebrating talented local DJs as well as welcoming world-famous guest artists such as Horsemeat Disco and Philip George.

The latest event, a day and night party starting at 3pm this Saturday, is a collaboration between Shari and Sanctury, who also share a love of the annual Manchester party night Homobloc. “The team want to bring a bit of Homobloc to Nottingham,” says Shari. “It’s all about creative an inclusive and fun environment where everyone can feel free to dance and be themselves.”
