In the not-too-distant future, civilisation as we know it has collapsed, with food and fuel shortages leading to gang wars, violence and all-out anarchy.

Since avenging the murder of his wife and child by motorcycle gang members, leather-clad ex-cop "Mad" Max Rockatansky (Mel Gibson) now spends his days drifting through the Australian wasteland in his supercharged black V-8 Pursuit Special, scavenging for food and petrol.

But when Max happens across a small group of settlers in the desert, struggling to defend their supplies against menacing marauders led by the hulking masked villain ‘Lord Humungus’, he agrees to help them fight... in return for his own share of the precious fuel.
