About Base 51:
Base 51 has been supporting young people in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire for over 30 years, we work with around over 1,000 11-25 year olds every year. We focus on early intervention, providing counselling, specialist trauma support from those affected by violent crime or exploitation, a LGBTQIA+ group and a youth club ; we also have a training academy where we offer accredited courses in Youth Work and Counselling.
Nottingham young people need support from charities like ours, even more so over the next few years with the ongoing issues with the Council. In the most recent Youth Opportunities Index in 2018 Nottingham was the worst place in England for young people; the area also has 54 wards which are in the top 10% most deprived in the country - meaning that people are already living below the poverty line.
Due to the longevity of our charity we have supported young people with a wide range of issues and circumstances, such as homelessness, substance and alcohol issues, abuse, poverty and health inequalities. Our team are experienced in working with the most vulnerable, helping them to create better lives by providing a range of support - we change people's lives for the better.
Testimonial from young people:
"I am glad that services like this are here to support young people as I did not know where else to go. I have always been helped and supported by Base51 when I am in trouble and I appreciate what they do for me."
"Without Base 51, I'd probably be in a prison cell."
"When I’m there I feel like I can be me, and I’ve had quite a bit of help. I feel a lot better. To say how much, I was down a rabbit hole and now I’d say I think I could reach the ladder”
