Join us for our next Science Public Lecture exploring soil survival and re-emergence: the continued threat of plague

Did you know that as the bacterial species responsible for plague, the bacterial pathogen Yersinia pestis, is considered one of the most destructive infectious diseases known to humanity? And soil is considered an important environmental reservoir it can adopt a ‘sit and wait’ lifestyle from where it can re-emerge.

In this lecture Dr Steve Atkinson, from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Nottingham, will explore the history and biology of the plague and discuss the work being carried out by the University to uncover the drivers for plague inactivity and resurgence in soil.

This lecture is part of our monthly science public lecture series, which showcase research from scientists at the University of Nottingham. These events are free, open to all and delivered by the Institute for Policy and Engagement, at the University of Nottingham. Visit nott.ac/scipubliclecture to book your FREE place.
