Rossini Petite messe solennelle
In their Spring concert, enjoy the talents of the University Choir and Chamber Choir. Rossini described his last major work, a setting of the Mass, as 'the last mortal sin of my old age'. Although composed more than 30 years after his last opera, the musical demands of the four soloists are certainly more operatic than sacred and the work is ‘petite’ (small) only in its instrumental scoring for two pianos and harmonium rather than its scale and length.
