Our literature editor James Walker is offering a potted history of Nottingham’s literary history...
Nottingham has had many titles over the years but one we can be very proud of is our City of Literature status. One project that captures our UNESCO status is Dawn of the Unread, Nottingham’s first ever literary graphic novel serial. Come to think of it, does any other city have their own bespoke literary graphic novel? *smug*
In the above video James Walker demonstrates his lack of vanity by dossing around Nottingham with a hairstyle straight out of the seventies. He even dares to enter The Thurland, all in the name of reading. And he’s done it because his online graphic novel serial Dawn of the Unread has grown into a physical book that’s being published by Spokesman Press and the City of Literature. The book launch is part of a series of events for the inaugural Festival of Literature. It costs a fiver to get in, includes a free drink, and you even get some money off the book should you confess to being a reader. It’s the culmination of two years of hard slog that includes: placements for 120 students, 57 Youtube videos, a reading flashmob, an App, and a terrible haircut. Now, lerrum know it was worth the effort and bag yersen a copy of the book.

We have a favour to ask
LeftLion is Nottingham’s meeting point for information about what’s going on in our city, from the established organisations to the grassroots. We want to keep what we do free to all to access, but increasingly we are relying on revenue from our readers to continue. Can you spare a few quid each month to support us?
