Turkish Delight

If you’ve not yet managed to get your summer holiday booked, and the prospect of staying in Hoodtown is getting you down, then cry no more. We’ve found a way you can visit far-away lands from the comfort of your own city. Nonsuch are taking us on a journey with their monthly film and food night and a story that’ll tek you all the way from Hamburg to Istanbul. Their screening of Im Juli – a German-Turkish road trip flick with the usual trials and tribulations along the way – sees physics teacher Daniel on the look out for the Turkish girl he saw fleetingly in his hometown in Hamburg. Following the film, it’s up and at ‘em to Antalya Restaurant, where you’ll tuck into a three-course feast with speciality Turkish dishes. That’s a bit of alright, that.
Wednesday 12 July, 6.30pm, £15.50  for film and food, £6.50 for film only, Nonsuch Studios, event link

The Beach

There’s absolutely no denying it. The sun has got his bleddy hat on and we’re a hop, skip and a jumping about the place, summer wardrobes firmly intact. To add to the summer time hysteria, the Nottingham Beach is back to bless the Market Square with sand pits cum fox litter trays and a little paddling pool for the kiddies. The beach bar is back, an’ all. Thank the gods of heat and mojitos for that one. After work drinks will now come in a cocktail glass with sand between yer tootsies as standard. We can’t wait. Plus, the very special addition of a gin garden, available for private hire, is making an appearance at this year’s festival. Pass us a cowd one, duck.
