Notts bogger Tom Aplin is off on a marathon tour, to raise some dosh for local charity Operation Orphan...
Local bloke Tom Aplin is running a marathon in Moldova to raise awareness and funds for Nottingham-based charity Operation Orphan. He will be joining the Hope Alive Tour; three incredibly hard sounding days in which seven runners run a relay from Hull to Cambridge - via Liverpool - before travelling to Moldova to complete a marathon.
While in Moldova, they will also take part in three days of social action, which will help the children who are being supported by the charity. “Operation Orphan works to improve the quality of life for orphans and vulnerable children worldwide,” said Tom. “They provide essential things such as education, health care and sustainable development to areas in need.”
Inspired by William Wilberforce’s stand against slavery, Operation Orphan was established by Brad and Cyrilyn Moore following a life changing trip to Moldova. Brad said: “The experience of seeing children, who once had no hope, no love and no support, find a new life broke my heart and sparked the desire to do my part and take up this cause.”
Committed to addressing modern day child slavery and exploitation, they identify and secure the long term support of at risk orphans, significantly decreasing their vulnerability to becoming absorbed into the dark world of child slavery.
Aiming to raise £1,500, Tom is hoping that the marathon will not only help support the charity, but will also promote awareness of the greater issues impacting the region.
