The Nottingham Business Improvement District (BID) has been successful in securing the votes required for a new five year term from 2021 to 2025, having received the overwhelming backing of businesses in Nottingham.
In their vote, which took place from Friday 18 September to Wednesday 15 October 92% of eligible businesses voted in favour by number, with 89% voting in favour by rateable value, representing a 46% turnout.
Upon securing the required votes, Nottingham BID has been quick to thank all its member businesses for their support during what has been a year of unprecedented challenges for the leisure, retail and office sectors. It has also reaffirmed its commitment to local businesses, creating opportunities to promote the city as well as support for a number of transformative projects set to take place in Nottingham in the coming years.
As soon as the new term comes into effect on 1 April 2021, the organisation will commence work on delivering the goals it set out in its new business plan. This will focus on four key strategic areas that have already seen great success in recent years - those being Promoted City, Managed City, Working City and Independent City.
The news also means the people and businesses of Nottingham can look forward to more great events that Nottingham BID helps organise and fund. This will include the hugely successful Light Night, The Magnificent Spiegeltent and The Cask Ale Trails.
The news has been warmly welcomed by the board of directors at Nottingham BID as well as by members of the BID team who are all extremely pleased by the resounding success of the ballot.
Lucy Stanford, manager of Nottingham BID commented: “We are absolutely delighted to have secured a new five year term to carry on our work on behalf of businesses in the city. We are honoured to have received such strong support, especially in a year that has proven to be so challenging for so many.”
“We understand that now more than ever we are under pressure to deliver our ambitions on behalf of the businesses of Nottingham and we look forward to getting to work on delivering those ambitions as of 1 April 2021. Whilst 2020 has been a year of unprecedented difficulties, we believe the future of Nottingham is bright. We would like to thank all those that voted in the ballot and we look forward to working with everyone over the next five years.”
Stephen Jackson, a director of Nottingham BID added: “On behalf of the board, I’d like to thank businesses for their continuing confidence in us; to our stakeholders, such as Nottingham City Council for their support; and for the incredible efforts of Lucy Stanford and the team at the BID office.”
With the events of 2020 having a huge impact on the city centres across the country, Nottingham BID is fully committed to continuing to deliver everything it can for the leisure, retail and offices sectors in response to the COVID-19 crisis. The It’s in Nottingham platform will be one key focus area moving forward having become a go-to channel for shoppers, visitors and business over the past ten years. Nottingham BID will also be supporting a number of transformative projects set to take place in Nottingham in the coming years.
This will include the improvement of key arrival points into the city. There will also be support for work that looks at better use of urban spaces as well as creating spaces around the city that help to drive footfall. Finally, there will be a strong focus with regard to the review of planning on key streets such as Bridlesmith Gate.
