After working with world renowned chefs like Sat Bains, Gordon Ramsay and Jason Atherton, then winning MasterChef in 2018, Nottingham chef Laurence Henry has announced his role as head chef at new restaurant Canal Turn.
In 2018, Laurence Henry was crowned MasterChef winner after he served an impressive three course meal in the show’s finale. Now, the Nottingham chef, who was hailed by judge Marcus Wareing as “the next generation” is setting up as chef patron at the new restaurant Canal Turn, which is located at the Island Quarter and plans to open in Spring 2022.
Laurence spoke excitedly about his new venture saying, “To be involved in this exciting new venue in Nottingham is absolutely fantastic and I am so pleased I can now shout about it. I have been looking for some time for my own restaurant where I can deliver my own style of cooking and be truly creative.”
“I am keen to take advantage of my MasterChef win and build on my reputation and that of the venues to make a huge success of Canal Turn. I can’t wait to get started on this exciting new adventure and look forward to welcoming diners from all over the country” the chef says.

Having trained at Ashburton Chefs Academy and subsequently worked under world renowned chefs like Sat Bains, Gordon Ramsay and Jason Atherton, this new restaurant promises to be an exciting addition to Nottingham’s foodie scene. With each floor of the three-floor restaurant having a slightly different theme, there will be a whole range of experiences to be enjoyed; whether that be grabbing a drink on the lower-level bar and grill, enjoying a dinner in Laurence’s signature restaurant, or attending a party on the upper floor – which has the capacity for 200 guests.
Alongside great food, the inside of Canal Turn is rumoured to have impressive interiors, having been designed by architect and design studio Macaulay Sinclair who also worked on well known restaurants like Dishoom, Hawksmoor and Caravan.
Robert Ware, CEO of Conygar investment company says that more information about food and menus will be revealed in the next few months. Ware also comments that “We are absolutely delighted to announce Laurence as operator of Canal Turn. We have been working really closely with him for a while now and are now delighted to announce our partnership with him.”
