Trying to push through to the end of Veganuary? Let Turtle Bay’s delightful vegan menu help you out. Our Editor, George, and Food Editor, Daniela, can confirm it’ll do the trick…

Vegan Motherclucker Burger

Plenty of vegan chicken burgers are top drawer these days - but Turtle Bay’s Vegan Motherclucker Burger slathered in jerk sauce? Now that’s top, top drawer. All of the Caribbean restaurant’s dishes come peppered with a generous range of spices and flavours, so you need a main that will soak up each and every one of them. This Motherclucker does exactly that.

Sandwiched between a nicely toasted brioche bun, with fresh pickles and lettuce taking things up another notch, this is the perfect dish to see you through to the end of Veganuary. And priced at just £8.20 (without fries, it must be said), it’s a great way to get more bang for your cluck (sorry).

Wanting to bring this beauty home with something a little refreshing, I opt for the Reggae Rum Punch - which blends Wray & Nephew, white rum, fresh lime, strawberry, pineapple and sorrel. Jumping between the Motherclucker and the Rum Punch is like getting stuck between heaven and a tasty place. 10/10 would recommend. George White (Editor)

Jerk Organic Tofu

Now, I’m no stranger to veganism, but that doesn’t mean I’m not occasionally surprised by just how good plant-based food can be. This time, I fancy something that’s got the hearty feel of a meat dish, but without the suffering and cruelty that comes with it. I opt for the Jerk Organic Tofu, which combines the vegan favourite with hot jerk gravy.

While the tofu itself is a little bland, the glazing is delicious and the spice in the sauce and rice is nicely balanced with sweet pineapple chunks. I team mine with coconut rice, which - be warned - has quite a kick, but the fresh and tasty Sunshine Salad helps keep things a little cooler if you’re not great with heat (like me). The main and side totals up to £16.10, but generous portion sizes make it worth the extra spend.

To wash it down, I go for a Jamrock Punch that’s zesty and fresh but never too sweet - a cocktail I always find myself going back to. Whether you’re out for brunch, lunch, dinner or cocktails, Turtle Bay never disappoints. Daniela Loffreda (Food Co-Editor)
