We've got some great picks for you this coming week, kicking it all off we Ja Rule and Co. at the Motorpoint Arena on Tuesday. Following that, for music there's exquisite opera, extra-terrestrial space rockers HENGE and Ben Portsmouth i.e. the closest thing we'll ever get to seeing Elvis live. Frida, the new biopic of the eponymous artist is a must see and is followed up Whisky Stain, who are sure to provide you with your powerful hook fix for the week.

Opera North - Cavalleria Rusticana / Aleko

If you have never dipped your toe into the world of opera, now's the time. Sumptuous set design, exquisite costumes, and big voices will of course be part of this double bill performance -  and at an hour long each, it's an easily digestible length for newbies.

Known as the opera that invented the mafia, Cavalleria Rusticana tells the tale of a soldier who returns from war to find his lover has married. He takes revenge by seducing another woman, even though his obsessive desire for his first love simmers. After the interval, in Aleko discover another story of passionate love and red-hot jealousy…

Ja Rule, Keri Hilson, Lloyd & Mya : THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED

Hip-Hop/ R&B staple Ja Rule takes to the road in 2024. The legendary rapper who brought you hits like "Always On Time" and "Livin' It Up," is hitting the stage for an unforgettable concert experience. He'll be joined by other 2000's favourites including, Keri Hilson, Lloyd, Mya, and more TBA!

HENGE

Occupying a strange space between prog rock and rave, the extra-terrestrial HENGE are touching down at Rescue Rooms and delivering a message of hope which will leave the audience amused and uplifted equally. Their fictional characters Zpor, Goo, Grok and Nom will be performing their signature sound ‘Cosmic Dross’ which is sure to be an entirely unique experience for even the most erudite of music listeners.

An intimate lens into the life of iconic Mexican painter Frida Kahlo directed by newcomer Carla Gutierrez. Told through Kahlo's very own words drawn from her diary and letters for the first time, this flick brings her to a new light and paints a vivid portrait of both her unforgettable life and genius artwork. This is a must see for those familiar and unfamiliar alike. Frida Kahlo lived a multi-faceted life and unique personality must be witnessed by one and all.

Ben Portsmouth: This is Elvis

Winner of the Elvis Presley Enterprises ‘Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest,’ Ben Portsmouth, is coming to the Royal Concert Hall and bringing his world-renowned, jaw-dropping tribute to The King of Rock and Roll. Being brought up by his super-fan father, on a strong diet of Elvis tracks, Portsmouth has Elvis in his DNA. Fans have described him as “the closest you will ever get to the King himself.”

Whisky Stain

If you're a fan of blues-drenched riffs, hymn crushing hooks and a mean blast of bloody punch drums then this Whisky Stain concert is a must-go for you. This powerhouse duo are notorious for their live shows, in the wake of which they’ve left a long trail of fan-filled venues gasping for more. They are practised, they’ve well-honed their craft and they're coming to Rock City soon!
