This week in Nottingham, enjoy some haunting ballet, wild bingo, have a chilled, creative Sunday at Cherry of Top, or check out new live music from the East Midlands.

BBC Introducing East Midlands

How much: Free but booking recommended

Need a new music fix and want to find your new favourite artist in Nottingham? Head down to Metronome this week to hear what’s being recommended by the legendary BBC presenter and music connoisseur Dean Jackson. This week you can catch performances by Bill Sage, Terrianne, Dorothy Ella and Commons. This event is also from age 14+ (although under 16s need to bring an adult) so a great opportunity to head to a gig with your teens.

Bongo’s Bingo

When: Friday 19 July
Where: Rock City
How much: £15

Want to go out on a Friday evening, but not out-out? Well a wild time may be awaiting you over at Rock City. Bongo’s Bingo, which has ‘rejuvenated the quintessentially quaint game of bingo for a new generation’ has a new Notts residency over the summer. Doors are early and you can expect amazing music, crazy prizes, en masse Karaoke, rave rounds, dance-offs, the odd pink unicorn, audience participation and - of course - plenty of bingo.

Sonic Sculptures 2

When: Thursday 18 – Sunday 21 July
Where: Broadway Cinema
How much: Free

If you’re into the art of soundscapes, over at Broadway Cinema a series of events returns, from visual artist/curator Ryan Boultbee, architectural design studio FROMTHEGROUNDUP (FTGU) and musician Tom Harris. With installations, workshops and performances, Broadway’s Near Now studio is set to be turned into an instrument exploring the intersections of material, space, and sound.

English Youth Ballet - Giselle

When: Friday 19 Saturday 20 July
Where: Theatre Royal
How much: £20-30

Fancy something fancy and hauntingly beautiful? Head to the Theatre Royal to see Giselle performed by English Youth Ballet, who have garnered a strong reputation for their stunning performances, inventive choreography and stage set design. Set in the Edwardian era on an English country estate, this story is a Downton Abbey-esque ghost story of romance, betrayal and revenge.

Cherry On Top - Gig, open mic and jam session

When: Sunday 21 July
Where: Old Bus Depot
How much: Free/P.A.Y.F

If it's a chilled and creative Sunday afternoon you're after to wind down your weekend, Cherry on Top is your answer. Over at cultural and music hub the Old Bus Depot, enjoy a gig from one of Nottingham’s talented musicians at 3pm, before a welcoming and relaxed open mic, suitable for seasoned musicians, aspiring poets, casual comedians and more. If your creative muscles are feeling all warmed up after that playful jamboree, get collaborative and stay for a jam session.
