Asking For It

When: Until 13 July
Where: National Justice Museum
How much: Free

A powerful photographic series by Jayne Jackson that challenges the persistent culture of victim-blaming in cases of sexual and gender-based violence. Jackson uses a striking mugshot format, historical styling, and heritage photographic techniques to expose the enduring narratives that shift blame onto survivors of sexual and domestic abuse. Developed over three years, the series features 20+ portraits, each representing a different period in history. Issues around consent, accountability, and justice abound throughout the different ages.

Scissor Sisters

When: Fri 16 May
Where: Motorpoint Arena
How much: From £50.98

Last year marked the 20th anniversary of Scissor Sisters eponymous debut album and was enough of a reason for the members to re-unite and embark on a tour together for the first time in a decade. Well-known for hits like I Can’t Decide, I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’ and Take Your Mama, they’re likely to fill the arena with the nostalgic disco-funk sound that dominated the 2000s. We’re told this tour will feature every song from their debut and then other hits besides.

Material Worlds Exhibition

When: Until Sun 31 Aug
Where: Lakeside Arts
How much: Free

Discover how the familiar tangibility of everyday textiles are transformed into the unexpected. Material Worlds Exhibition is a dynamic group exhibition showcasing how artists such as Caroline Achaintre, Jonathan Baldock, and Holly Hendry are pushing the boundaries of textile art, transforming the intimate and domestic quality of material into theatrical artworks. Exploring ideas of the body, identity, gender, race, heritage, myth and folklore, this touring exhibition showcases not just the artists’ deep awareness for the cultural significance of textiles, but a desire to explore its potential as a medium for contemporary art.

Bryan Adams

When: Sat 17 May
Where: Motorpoint Arena
How much: From £65.10

Back in 1991, when the pop charts meant everything Bryan Adams did something very special. He released (Everything I Do) I Do It for You, which spent sixteen weeks at number one. It was the soundtrack to the film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and felt particularly special for those of us from Notts and old enough to remember. He’s now fifteen albums in with his latest album Roll With The Punches about to be released. But for that feat alone, the Canadian-born rocker (born to British parents) deserves the freedom of our city!

‘One Step at a Time’ Recovery Walk and Family Event

When: Sun 18 May
Where: Arboretum
How much: Free

As part of the Inclusive Recovery Cities movement for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, this inclusive and family day event is looking to bring together the wider community to promote awareness and celebrate recovery achievements. A classic bonanza of food and drink stalls, with local promotor I'm Not From London brings Notts music from the likes of local talent Sancho Panza and Davina Songbird. Sponsored activities from Nottingham Forest FC, and two group-led walks are also scheduled for the day. Celebrate Nottingham’s recovery community one step at a time!

Pick Of The Week (1200 X 900 Px) (1)

Eric Clapton

When: Sun 18 May
Where: Motorpoint Arena
How much: From £99

His first Nottingham date since 2008 and his only show of this tour outside of the capital, Eric Clapton is back in town and we’re sure it’s going to be “Wonderful Tonight”. Clapton is celebrating his 60-year career with a setlist that blends his classic hits Layla and Tears In Heaven with deep cuts and bluesy covers; with a guitar still as sharp as his trademarked lyricism, it’s guaranteed to be a night of nostalgia revitalised.
