There's a great mix of stuff happening this week in Notts - we've got Japanese pop-punk from Shonen Knife, Sneinton Avenues Vegan Market, Comic-con, Restaurant week and some inspiring exhibitions. Here's our top picks...

Nottingham Restaurant Week

Over fifty restaurants and bars are offering exclusive menus priced between £10 and £30, including BEAR, Las Iguanas, and Piccalilli, serving Nottingham’s vibrant food scene on full display. Buffet worthy.

The Book Of Mormon

Spread the word, The Book of Mormon returns to the Nottingham stage. Brought to you by the writers of South Park, this Tony and Olivier award winning musical follows two mismatched Mormon missionaries as they are dispatched to Ugandan village, where their earnest attempts at conversation are met with unexpected challenges. A show with high production values and an even higher number of laughs guaranteed, it doesn’t put a foot, or note, wrong.

Shonen Knife

When: Tuesday 3 June

Formed in Osaka in 1981, Shonen Knife are an all female pop-punk band with influences that range from The Beach Boys to The Ramones. With forty years of influence and songs such as Buttercup (I'm a Super Girl) (inspired by The Powerpuff Girls), I am a Cat, and I Wanna Eat Choco Bars, they're sure to be a hit with any lovers of early bubblegum J-pop and punk. Kurt Cobain was even a fan, so snap up a ticket and get down to see these legends.

Body Positive Art Exhibition by Charlotte Thomson-Morley

When: 17 May - Wednesday 25 June
Where: Natural Wellness Centre

There's always lots going on over at Derby Road's Natural Wellness Centre, from workshops and classes to holistic healing events and treatments, but we were very excited to spot this current exhibition added to the mix. Charlotte Thomson-Morley is a local artist whose work focusses on body positive and spiritual focussed themes. She even created a wonderful cover for LeftLion back in 2024. For any art lovers we suggest spending an afternoon getting inspired and see what else they have on offer.

EM-CON

Where: Motorpoint Arena

Whether you’re there to meet your screen heroes or show off your latest cosplay creation, EM-CON is bringing a galaxy of sci-fi, fantasy, and pop culture goodness to Nottingham. Featured guests of this year's convention will include BAFTA-winning actor Warwick Davies, Star Trek legend Marina Sirtis, and Veronica Taylor, the voice of Pokémon’s Ash Ketchum.

DIODE Electronic Music Festival

This one is for the dancefloor die-hards. Following on from the success of the first festival, DIODE is pulsing through Nottingham once again to showcase a genre-blending lineup of UK and European electronic music. From the local techno-talent of Infinity Curve to the Dutch decks of SKOULAMAN and Ron Boots + Ian Boddy, expect a full spectrum of sonic sound.

Sneinton Vegan Market

Where: Sneinton Market

Taking over Sneinton Market with plant-based bites and cruelty-free goodies, Nottingham’s Vegan Market indulges both the planet and the people. From stacked vegan burgers and handmade bakes, to sustainable crafts and crochet, it’s a proper feast for foodies and green-minded shoppers alike. Good grub, good ethics, and good times - all wrapped up in NG2.

Resistance Exhibition: One Eye on the Road – Windsor to the Beanfields and Beyond

When: Saturday 7 June 5pm - 9pm | Sunday 8 June 12-9pm
Where: Sumac Centre, Forest Fields

Bringing together forty years worth of archival materials, this exhibition documents protest culture in the UK through photography, posters, videos, text and objects. On Saturday evening the Sumac Centre hosts a talk by Alan 'Tash' Lodge, a photographer who has spent his life documenting the free party movement, festivals, protests and the traveller community, including the 'Battle of the Beanfield' - a prearranged police ambush of the peace convoy, which travelled through Wiltshire for the annual Stonehenge free festival in 1985. On the Sunday, you can drop in any time between 12-9pm to see the exhibition and also indulge in some Food By Veggies, including the Sumac Sunday Brunch and #SamosasForSocialChange.
