11840 square feet of glowing, soft and slightly bouncy labyrinth is landing in Nottingham...
Based locally the Architects of Air company tour the world with their unique light sculptures, they promise "A stunning spectacle of colour, shape and light. A worldwide festival favourite, this is Nottingham's chance to appreciate a dazzling creation in the beautiful surroundings of Highfield Park, located immediately behind Lakeside's DH Lawrence Pavillion."
So what on earth is it you ask? Basically an enormous inflatable structure, built on the same principal as bouncy castles the 'luminarium' as it is called is cleverly fashioned from coloured PVC to create amazing vaults, rooms and shapes. You enter the structure through an air lock into a wonderland of coloured light filtering through the surface layers, everything is faintly bouncy and organic floatation tankesque sounds can be heard via a concealed sound system. Having seen one before I can safely say its awe inspiring, plus great fun, relaxing and ideal for all ages, just wander round and let it engulf you - if you've got some free time this bank holiday weekend its definitely worth a look.
The sculpture is open until Sunday 5th June, 11am - 5.30pm as part of Wheee!, Lakeside's International Children's Theatre and Dance Festival 2011 and the NEAT11 festival.. Tickets are £3.00 per person available from the Lakeside Arts Centre's box office on the day or in advance by calling 0115 846 7777. The 'Luminarium' is accessible to wheelchair users.

We have a favour to ask
LeftLion is Nottingham’s meeting point for information about what’s going on in our city, from the established organisations to the grassroots. We want to keep what we do free to all to access, but increasingly we are relying on revenue from our readers to continue. Can you spare a few quid each month to support us?
