Most rock bands have humble beginnings (usually in the bedroom or their parents' garage!) Getting a band together and finding gigs to play can be a big hurdle for anyone, but particularly when you're still under 18.
So a festival that gives young Nottingham bands and singers a gig in a 300-capacity venue, with the chance of winning 2 days recording time in a professional studio sounds like a good thing to us here at LeftLion.
The 'Bands In The Sand' Competition 2004 will be running from the 9-12 November, at the Sandfield Theatre in Lenton. Entry forms and further information are available from College Street Arts in Education Centre.
Event organiser Helen Maltby said: "The festival last year kicked-started some fantastic new bands, and gave other, more established bands a chance to play at a decent venue. The quality of performers was fantastic, and we're looking forward to hearing even more talent this year".
The competition is open to all bands and solo singers who have at least one member attending a city LEA-maintained school or 6th form or Nottingham Music School. All styles of bands and solo singers are allowed to enter. This year's festival is being supported by Confetti Studios and Music Inn and is being organised in conjunction with College Street and Musical Futures.

We have a favour to ask
LeftLion is Nottingham’s meeting point for information about what’s going on in our city, from the established organisations to the grassroots. We want to keep what we do free to all to access, but increasingly we are relying on revenue from our readers to continue. Can you spare a few quid each month to support us?
