Jason Murphy, a volunteer at Recovery in Nottingham, currently engages minimally in the cultural life that Nottingham has to offer, but that’s about to change as he swaps places with Penny and goes on a whirlwind tour of the arts scene in Nottingham. He’ll be visiting a plethora of venues including Broadway Cinema, The Bodega, Royal Concert Hall and The New Art Exchange.
Keep an eye out on the LeftLion Twitter feed as they document their experiences throughout the week. Penny’s tweets will be prefixed with ‘PR:’ and Jason’s with ‘JM:’. They'll also be using the hashtag #BBCGetCreative to unite with other local and national projects.
This project is part of an exciting new cultural initiative which will celebrate and encourage world-class arts, culture and creativity. Get Creative... aims to raise awareness and appreciation for the arts, culture and creativity of all kinds that surround us everywhere, ranging from local to national, rural to urban, from digital art to fine art, from fashion design to ballet, from poetry to hip hop opera.
The project hopes to facilitate the connection and better promotion of the huge range of cultural events that already take place in our fair city, which includes Light Night, Hockley Hustle, Riverside Festival, the Festival of Words, and many more.
The aim is to get people enjoying, doing and experiencing the arts, both by inspiring people with brilliant events, exhibitions and performances, and by making it easy for them to find out what they can do to get involved.
We have a favour to ask
LeftLion is Nottingham’s meeting point for information about what’s going on in our city, from the established organisations to the grassroots. We want to keep what we do free to all to access, but increasingly we are relying on revenue from our readers to continue. Can you spare a few quid each month to support us?
