lack of opportunity given to DJ's in and around Nottingham (as well as most other cities in England!).
They decided that rather than sitting on their arses complaining, that they should do something about it and so `Decks Appeal' was born. The idea behind the agency is to seek out local DJ's who have the skills to perform, but need help with making contacts or promoting themselves.
"From a venue's point of view, we can offer talented DJ's in almost any style of music without any agency charges to the business" said Marcus Stubbs, a DJ and founder member.
Decks Appeal keep in touch with many venues via regular newsletters detailing their latest additions and their monthly 'Top 3 DJ's'. Any bar or club can sign into this for free, and all are encouraged to listen to demo cd's from the dj's on the books. They also run advertising on their site for those venues that are signed up.
Decks appeal is a new Artist Management agency in Nottingham, set up by five friends who were disillusioned by the
"There are no musical barriers to worry about," Guy, a Drum and Bass DJ and one of the founders told us "If it's good, its good no matter what style."
Once a mix is deemed worthy, a year contract will be offered. Decks Appeal charge a £15 annual subscription fee, to cover the costs of mastering and duplicating their mix CD's to send off to prospective clients. The agency stress they are not in it for the money, but of course they do need to maintain an income! As well as this the agency also has a regular column in City Lights magazine to promote and advertise its DJ's and events.
"The biggest thing to come out of the agency so far is the birth of a brand new monthly night at the lost weekend club, called 'flying circus'" Marcus tells us.
The night launched earlier this month and has now moved to the first Friday of the month (the next one is July 2nd). The idea is to get the DJ's on the agency playing alongside top class DJ's and also for them to feature on any promotional material and flyers, including a 1/4 page advert in DJ magazine for each party. The main sound for flying circus is underground house music, but upstairs will be dedicated to breaks, beats and scratching.
"Our night will always aim to entertain in more ways than one," says Marcus. "Like magic tricks, jugglers, and other random weirdness going on throughout the night. If you need a breather from the dance floor for a while, there's no need for the entertainment to stop!"
The agency is always looking for talented DJ's to join forces with. For more information or to contact them visit www.decks-appeal.co.uk
