Dusty Bible & The Canadians will be recording a live album over two nights at JT Soar

It has been a fairly difficult task to choose five live performances on YouTube. I probably could have taken months to get this done. I've left out so many favourites: Mississippi Fred McDowell, Mississippi John Hurt, Furry Lewis, RL Burnside and that's just some of the blues. The blues to me is the source of all modern music, Jazz, Rock n Roll, RnB, Soul, Punk, Metal, Hip Hop, Dance. I could go on and on and on and on...

John Lee Hooker - I'm Leaving
Look into those eyes, that' where the blues comes from. John Lee Hooker with the Groundhogs on support! This is the electric blues at it's finest! This is the source fuckers! This is rock n roll, this is punk, this is soul, this is source for everythang to come. Can I get an AMEN Brothers and Sisters! SHHHHHHHEEEEEEIIIIIIITTTTT! What a performance, what is going on? Damn it's all over the place but hell it's good. I don't think there is a finer live footage from this era. There's a chef wiggin out!

Captain Beefheart - Sure 'Nuff 'N Yes I Do
That GROOVE! That slide! That VOICE! I can't get enough of this tune. It's heavy, it's funky it's great. Imagine a world without Beefheart, that is a grey world. John Peel called him a Genius and I for one think Mr. Peel's opinion counts...Perhaps the members of the Magic Band might disagree but I think it was probably worth being chucked down the stairs and psychologically tortured to make music this good (I would say that). I particularly love this footage of them on the beach at Cannes. I'm not sure what exactly I love about it, they are a weird band, they are an awkward band, but they are a great band!

Cows - Shitbeard
I had the chance to see Cows live in Toronto sometime in the mid nineties. I'd hadn't heard of them, some friends of mine were opening up for them and said I'd better check this out. So I went along, apart from a few Toronto rednecks in the audience, me and my friends and the other bands were about the sum total of the audience. I was STUNNED. I have only felt physically threatened by a band twice...this was the first. An onslaught, a storm of sound. It was relentless and intimidating. This footage is the best that I could find on short notice. There is some great footage of them playing CBGB's but the sound is fucked...The 2nd song Shitbeard is classic Cows. THIS IS THE BLUES FUCKERS! Dolls head cod piece, assless chaps and whipped cream, nuff said.

Leadbelly - Three Songs
I'm trying to find the footage which was filmed and put together by Pete Seger but am struggling, Currently listening to Nirvana covering Leadbelly which says a lot if you ask me. Leadbelly! King of the Twelve String Blues. This is a man who was playing a gig and like to eye up the ladies, someone's partner / husband took exception to this and walked up behind Leadbelly and slit his throat. Leadbelly turned around beat the man and carried on playing the gig (is that punk enough for you!). He was one of the original sources of the blues. He was an entertainer, check these moves out!. He was the blues and more. I found the footage, here it is in all it's glory...

Son House - Death Letter Blues
One of the Godfathers of delta blues. Son House sings and plays with an intensity that you can see, he's using everything in his body and soul to communicate to you the things he seen and feels. This is the blues, just look at him, he is the blues! One of the originals, almost faded into obscurity but found by blues revivalists in the 60's. A living legend caught on camera. This is RAW, and the SOURCE!

Dusty Bible & The Canadians live LP recording takes place at JT Soar on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 May 2015. Both nights are free to attend. They will be joined by Bus Stop Madonnas (15 May) and Fists (16 May). Further information available on Facebook - Night one / Night two.
