The Venus Papers
Lydia Towsey explores what it means to be a female in the 21st century with her one-woman show, touring her thoughts in a load of different cities. For her Nottingham show, she’ll be joined by the city’s Mouthy Poets, Panya the Poet, and Andrew ‘Mulletproof’ Graves, who’ll all be performing as well as getting stuck in to the workshop beforehand. With a mixture of poetry, spoken word and music, the themes of journeying and landscapes are woven into Lydia’s story. But she’s not stopping at a simple performance; there’ll be a creative writing masterclass starting at 4pm which focuses on writing both for the page and the stage, and getting a show ready to tour. After a couple of hours’ learning, you may just find the answer to the question: What if Venus, the Roman Goddess of love and beauty, washed up on a beach at this moment in time?
Thursday 20 October, 4pm workshop, 7.30pm performance, £3/£5, Nottingham Writers’ Studio

We have a favour to ask
LeftLion is Nottingham’s meeting point for information about what’s going on in our city, from the established organisations to the grassroots. We want to keep what we do free to all to access, but increasingly we are relying on revenue from our readers to continue. Can you spare a few quid each month to support us?
