Event: I’m in Love with a Video Nasty
Synopsis: 2015 marks the thirtieth anniversary of the Video Recordings Act, which brought in censorship of home video as a knee-jerk reaction to the availability of uncensored sex and horror films on the high street – the infamous Video Nasties. The night will be celebrating all that was shocking and outrageous about seventies and early eighties cinema, with trailers, documentaries, discussion and a mystery Nasty feature film – will it be Bloody Moon? Will it be Exposé? Only time (and possibly audience votes) will tell! All within the confines of Broadway’s luxuriant and informal Lounge. Limited space: so first come, first served.

Event: Pigs and Battleships screening
Synopsis: “A dazzling, unruly portrait of postwar Japan, Pigs and Battleships details, with escalating absurdity, the desperate power struggles between small-time gangsters in the port town of Yokosuka. Shot in gorgeously composed, bustling CinemaScope, the film follows a young couple as they try to navigate Yokosuka’s corrupt businessman, chimpira, and their own unsure future together. With its breakneck pacing and constantly inventive cinematography, this film marked Shôhei Imamura as a major voice in Japanese cinema.” Criterion Collection.
