Bored of feeling like you are seeing the same movie regurgitated every time you go to the cinema?
Or maybe you are just fed up of knowing nearly the entire film due to the lengthy trailers?
Well I recommend checking out Spartan. When I went to see this film I had never heard of it and did not know what it was going to be about, the only thing I did know was that Val Kilmer starred in it (I knew this only because it was on the cinemas web page next to the times of the show!!). However, this was the reason I wanted to see it, I wanted something completely fresh and it was!
In my opinion this film is flawless (although I have to admit I did miss the first 5 minutes so the opening may have been poor but I doubt it); it follows the story of one special agent on one mission and depicts the lengths the American government go to, whether that is for the good or for the bad. Ok so maybe this is not based on a particular true story but it is most definitely believable. With Michael Moore's current vendetta against the propaganda in American politics being, in my humble opinion, propaganda itself; this film demonstrates in a very subtle way what cover ups could realistically happen in government.
I do not want to tell you too much about this film as it would spoil it, but it is one of the best gritty films I've seen in a long long time. With raw almost 3rd person directing and a brilliant cast including Val Kilmer and William H Macy this is definitely one to watch.
