The Summer Night is a coming-of-age film about Doug, an eight-year-old boy discovering his own mortality. Based on The Night by Ray Radbury, director Lucy Young says that capturing the poignant moment in a child’s life where they realise the fragility of life, is the essence of the film. The 18-year-old filmmaker/photographer said; “I really want to focus on a less surrealistic film, and more of a narrative coming of age title. Of course, if you know my films, there are still going to be some strange aspect about it."
A regular contributor to the Five Lamps Film festival at the QUAD, Lucy explains: “This project should be and is important to me as with all my films. I absolutely adore witnessing and working with the talents of filmmakers on projects and as this is no different,” says Lucy. “For me, this project isn't just about putting together a story from my somewhat peculiar mind but also bringing a community together to produce something that we can all be proud of. This why I am only hiring people and equipment from in and around Derby and Nottingham of all ages - a true local project.”
The Indiegogo campaign is live now. Lucy is looking for £1,500 for equipment, wages, travel and food expenses. Perks include cake, signed thank you cards, DVD, tote bags, a photoshoot, Producer credit, a ‘Filmmaker’ hoodie and the opportunity to write your own ending to the film.
The Summer Night Indiegogo campaign will end on Saturday 25 July 2015.
